Continuing Professional Education & Renewal for Registered Valuers
An IBBI Registered Valuer's registration is not granted once and held indefinitely. Under the Companies (Registered Valuers and Valuation) Rules, 2017, a valuer must complete a minimum number of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit hours each year, plus a minimum cumulative total across a multi-year rolling block set by IBBI, to keep their registration current.
Why CPE and renewal requirements exist
Registered Valuer status is maintained, not just awarded, on top of the initial registration process described in our guide to becoming an IBBI Registered Valuer. IBBI's framework requires ongoing training so that a valuer's knowledge of valuation standards, regulatory changes and methodology stays current after initial registration. This is administered through credit hours tracked on both an annual basis and a rolling multi-year block.
How CPE is delivered and tracked
CPE programs are conducted through a valuer's Registered Valuers Organisation (RVO), a body such as ICAI RVO or other organisations recognised by IBBI, which run courses in line with a syllabus set by IBBI and track each member's completed hours. A valuer's RVO is the direct, authoritative source for their own current CPE status.
What happens if CPE requirements are not met
Falling short of the required CPE hours can affect the renewal and continued validity of a Registered Valuer's registration. The specific consequences and any grace period are set by IBBI and can change, so they should be confirmed directly against the current circular rather than assumed.
Where to check the current requirement
Exact CPE hour thresholds have been revised by IBBI more than once. Rather than quoting a specific figure here that could be out of date, the current requirement should always be confirmed directly against the latest circular published on ibbi.gov.in, or through your Registered Valuers Organisation.
